ANTONÍN STŘÍŽEK, ALENA ANDERLOVÁ

Meeting

Vernissage 23. 4. at 7 pm.

Curator: Miroslav Krupička

The exhibition will present a graduate and teacher of the Academy of Fine Arts Antonín Střížek and his former student
academic painter Alena Anderlová (graduated 2005). They meet after many years - therefore MEETING.

While Střížek has been established on the Czech scene since the early 1990s, Alena
Anderlová is building her name gradually. Both artists are close to each other. For example, by portraying
themes that have a certain generalizing character. And they also move in a strange timelessness.

We cordially invite you to the vernissage!

Antonín Střížek (1959) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in the 1980s and returned to the Academy of Fine Arts in 1997 for five years as head of the painting studio. He is one of the most followed artists of Czech postmodernism. His oil paintings are metaphysically real - classical painting subjects become full of spiritual impulse in Střížek's rendition. The technique is subordinated to the overall aesthetic expression. The painterly handwriting is almost minimalist in its essence, yet we can perceive it fully. The beauty of ordinary things thus appears miraculous. Střížek's paintings look like they are from another time, but it is neither the past nor the future. Antonín Střížek is undoubtedly one of the most original painters of our time. His work is represented in many collections in this country and abroad, and one of Střížek's most important achievements is the realisation of the curtain of the State Opera in Prague in 2002.

Alena Anderlová (1977), a graduate of Michael Rittstein's studio at the Academy of Fine Arts, is devoted to figurative painting - her paintings feature people, animals, machines, but also cities and landscapes. She uses a wide range of expressive means to build her pictorial worlds: classical brush painting, traces of spray paint, various rollers, stencil impressions and collage, with a particular emphasis on capturing light through precise paint work. As a result, her works are full of magical atmosphere, mysterious ethos and subliminal tension.
